I recall the first time I ever saw an road accident. I must have been about 10 years old then and it was along the stretch of the circular flyover approaching Toa Payoh. I vaguely remember watching a car hit an old lady who was trying to jaywalk across the wide road and literally flying through the end.
No, I didn't scream cos it happened so fast and we zipped on by on the opposite side, but it has obviously left an impression on me.
Unfortunately, I saw my second incident today and whilst it did not happen scene by scene, it made enough impact on me to leave an impression. It was a Honda 7 seater that had backed into an old lady and she was lying full under the car's body.
I was sadden when my driver remarked that its a pity no one had moved the old lady to ER which was about 5 minutes away, waiting instead for the ambulance to come, which probably took about 15 minutes. Upon further questioning, it came to light that apparently if anyone was kind enough to have done so, it was likely that the blame and bills for the care would have been shouldered by this kind soul.
I find this thought quite disturbing - to think that kind deeds are condemned.
