Meepok in Shanghai? Yes.
This is where our family heads to when we miss home food and crave that Lemak or Laksa. Its a little off the beaten track but really near where we live (which goes to show that sometimes, staying in the suburbs has its advantages!).
We love its unpretentious ambience and Frankie himself is a very cheerful and nice man. We often ring ahead and the food is served once we get to the table, definitely something that can't be done at most restaurants. Well-thumbed copies of The Straits Times and Singapore magazines such as Her World can be found here, but one often has to come early to grab the latest copy.
The Meepok is a definite thumbs up from us as we've found it hard to replicate this dish. I like their curry puffs too, but only when its freshly made. He'll tell you what's good. Mr B loves their nasi lemak and laksa and we've recently discovered that he serves a good oyster omelette too. At times, we will pack away some chui kueh to steam the next morning for breakfast and we've used him to cater for R's birthday gathering the past 2 years.
Mr B tells me that Frankie has been in Shanghai for over 20 years and used to be the "canteen" for many Malaysians and Singaporeans when his cafe was at WaiGaoQiao many years ago. Mr B remembers going there his dose of comfort food.
