I remember Ben's secretary long ago in San Jose, a dynamic lady called Mona, ever told me that she never watches the television, especially not the news, since it always is bad news. If we consider all the news coverage that has been happening recently, this thought seems really true.
1. financial crisis with the onslaught of retrenchment (which my company has just completed round 1 of, with more rumored to come)
2. mumbai attacks and foreign hostages held, including one Singaporean lady
3. ships being hijacked by Somalian pirates
4. protestors in Bangkok seizing the international airport (my company is currently running an Introduction to Manager's training course there and I have some colleagues whom I hold dear there now)
and so much more...
In these times, my dear dad reminds me to be thankful and ask for prayers for those affected, as well as for God's protection on our family. That we may be protected against these turmoil that is taking place all over the world.
Lord, for the simple things that you bring forth to our minds in times like these - security, food, water, shelter - I thank you for your provision of them to us. Amen.
