Junior college parenting

I had a meetup with my mates from my junior colleage days and it was so delightful to see how everyone had come...in terms of having a family, or at least those that showed up somehow already have kids. Little could I imagine that almost 14 years ago we were all single, boyfriendless (most of us were) and just enjoying our merry, carefree, innocent time at Junior College.

One of us already have two delightful children. Another with the second on the way. Most of us only have our first and another of us is a new mother to be.

It was interesting to watch how the new parents among us still get tickled by the naunces of a child - giggling at how cute it sounds when the little one sneezes or lovingly change diapers and wipe poo while the ones among us with older children have a more...hmm... shall I say, jaded attitude, not even realising that our preschoolers had escaped to the nearby playground without informing us or that they had independently taken off their shoes when they entered the home. I guess the "wow" novelty factor wears off after a while.

It was also with much amusement when we watched the 15 month old toddler hit a 13 month old toddler with a squeaky rubber hammer and it was the respective mothers who went "Ouch" and "I'm sorry", presumably on behalf of their children, while the toddlers in question just stared at each other with "deer in the headlights" look. Isn't amazing how we become our children's voices when they can't speak and how we become their hands and feet when they can't react?

It was touching to watch our children connect with one another and form friendships like their parents before them. I wonder how THAT will pan out since we have quite interesting dynamics within our group. If only we could turn the clock forward and sneak a peek.
