I exclaimed. They countered with a look and "where?" and I told them to please leave the house and come back in again, like I did - maybe then they will smell it.
My daughter literally stuck her head out the door, took two deep breaths and turned her head back in and declared "mama no smell". I then told her to walk out the hallway and told nanny to follow her. So they both went out for about 3 minutes, then came back in and still declared "no smell".
Worried and thinking that maybe it WAS me, I decided to wait till the driver came up to return the keys. When he appeared, I asked if he did smell anything and he quickly exclaimed that he did.
We then tracked it down to the free standing heater that was in the living room and look what we found.
Yeah, it was pretty scary.
I wonder why, if this was burnt, did the radiator not trigger the safety switch. My imagination runs wild going through all the possible what-ifs. I can only say that I am SO thankful that He was watching over our household.
The rubbery burnt smell is still mildly lingering in our house three days after. We've tried opening all the windows and doors and its quite a stubborn stench.
In case you were wondering, it was a Rowenta branded heater, barely 2 years old and only used in the winter and it was a mid priced range, so not like a cheapie. I'll just have to figure out what brand and model to purchase for winter
